It All Starts At Home

Go setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains; but the rebellious dwell in a dry land. ~ Psalm 68:6

The family unit is the foundation for our society. When the foundation is crumbling the house cannot stand. When you look at the state of affairs in the world, it is a direct result of the breakdown of our families. It has a trickle down affect. Our values are taught to us at an early age and are carried with us throughout our lives. When the family structure breaks down, society as a whole is the unfortunate recipient of its ill effects.

“As a potter molds clay to form a beautiful creation, so does the strong bond of family and good values.” Family bonds are the link to our beginning and the guide to our future.” It is important that children continue to see dad and mom date, balancing the check book, going to church as a unit. The father is the one who will teach his son how to become a man. The mother teaches the daughter to become a woman. Conversely, the father shows his daughter how she should be treated by the man in her life and the mother shows the son how to treat a lady. I have always loved and admired my Jewish friends’ family values. They have a process that allows them to pass on their values in spite of the times or changes in culture. Family comes first.

“When we don’t have the security and influence of strong family bonds early in life, the ground work is laid for an emptiness that is often sought to be filled, through destructive venues.” Alcoholism, drug abuse, juvenile delinquency, depression can sometimes is the result when that strong family bond is missing. “It is difficult to achieve in life when the core of your being has not been nurtured.” The change we need in the world must start at home with the family.
