Plant the Seeds for Success

Train the child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it ~ Proverbs 22:6

Are you giving your children the very best? I’m not referring to the things that money can buy, like designer clothes, or the latest video game system. I’m talking about the internal goods that equip your child to successfully navigate this journey called life. The things that you sow in them will be the things that are reaped. However, we cannot just give them lip service, we must lead and teach by example. Are you operating from a place of integrity, and excellence? We cannot expect them to do so if we do not. As the saying goes, action speaks louder than words, and your actions will speak so loudly that they will not be able to hear your words.

The bible states that you will know a tree by its fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit. Our children’s lives are like a garden and as parents we are the gardeners. What seeds are you nurturing? In other words, what or who are you building your children to become. It is important to impart wisdom, integrity, character and value in children while they are young and later when they are exposed to society they are equipped and empowered to make positive choices.

My parents, though they were very young planted and nurtured in us some very valuable seeds that I still live by today. My mother demonstrated a strong faith in God that she passed on to me. Faith is the thing that gives me the perseverance I need when I experience hard times. My father taught me to work for a better world. To this day I have a passion for leadership and serving others with excellence. As a child growing up in the inner city of Chicago we faced financial hardships and many evictions from our homes. However, my parents gave me a vision for a brighter future. My life is a reflection of that vision. What vision will your children’s lives reflect?
